Some people reading this review may be asking whether it is worth paying the extra cash for a Classic Vibe model? Especially when compared to an entry level models, such as an Affinity Strat.

As most of us know, there is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to guitars (as with many purchases). So the more you spend, doesn’t necessarily make it worth it. That being said, when purchasing in the lower end of the budget spectrum, going a few steps up in price can make a big difference. The difference may not be immediately noticeable at first. However, as your skills develop, you’ll come to appreciate the better quality components and maybe even the resale value.

If you can spare the additional dollars to get a Classic Vibe, you won’t regret spending. So yes, in this case, it is worth the extra cash.

Tone

So, let’s get serious…how does it sound? Like a Strat? You betcha. With 3 Custom Vintage-Style Single-Coil Strat pickups, and a 5 way switch, you’ll be finding all the great Strat tones that have graced our ears over the last 6 decades. The alder body and maple neck combine to deliver a classically versatile and dynamic range of tones. In lay terms, this means it sounds great and has a ton of different voices.

Having now played a few different models in the Fender Squier Classic Vibe range, I will say that I’ve found some minor differences in the tone options between the different variants, which is to be expected. Though I’ll add that the variance is pretty low, so you can expect a similar sound from most models.

The 5 way tone switch, made famous by Leo Fender works exactly has you’d expect. For those unaware, that switch engages and disengages the 3 pickups in the following way:

1. Neck pickup alone
2. Neck and middle pickups
3. Middle pickup alone
4. Middle and bridge pickups
5. Bridge pickup

The diagram on the right shows the switch selection in a little more detail.  With the combination of switch options, tone and volume controls – there are few tones that these guitars can’t produce. Of course, this is one of the reasons that the Stratocaster became famous.

Classic Vibe Stratocaster ’50s

At the time of writing, Squier is offering this guitar in just one finish. In this case the mix of black and honey-brown on this two-tone sunburst really has been superbly applied, especially considering the price point. This is assisted no end by the subtle yet eye-catching grain of the alder body.

If we were to be very critical, we’d be obliged to point out the overly hefty scratchplate — almost twice as thick as that of a 1989 Japanese Fender Strat we’re using as a comparison — but it is affixed with eight, historically requisite, screws.

A five-way switch controls three vintage-style and aged-covered Alnico III-loaded single-coils alongside a single volume and two tone pots in the familiar way.

Of course, retrofitting higher-grade pickups would simply be a case of spending a few minutes with a soldering iron and screwdriver, but changing out the bridge might prove a tad more complex because this vintage-style vibrato is the more tightly string-spaced version — smaller than that used on American vintage-style Fenders, so the body mounting holes differ.

That said, the guitar is nicely set-up out of the box, and the bridge feels of good quality, so who really needs to upgrade?

The neck is constructed from a single piece of high-quality maple and this example even glimmers with a shimmer of figure. The shaping behind the headstock wouldn’t be out of place on a full-blown American instrument and the 21 medium frets make the guitar ridiculously easy to play. All up, from an initial look and a little while playing, this guitar could cost a lot more money.

Sounds

Hear each pickup selection in action, beginning with the bridge unit:

You’d expect, if everything else is the same, single-coils based around Alnico III magnetsto possess a warmer, more subdued tone than those with Alnico V and, when comparing the ’50s Strat with its ’60s counterpart in the same range, the zing and trebly bite of the latter is apparent.

Positions two and four are more crystalline and brittle — in a good way — and, with additional gain, the bridge and neck coils do sing in the traditional manner. In this scenario, Alnico IIIs do tend to drive at lower gains, and they give a fuller tone that also benefits from a slightly improved level of warmth. In other words, it gives a markedly more vintage sounding performance.

Although Squier’s Standard Series (from £209) represents good value, we must now suggest that the Classic Vibe range has become the initial port of call if you’re after your first Strat.

The ’50s Strat looks the part, plays wonderfully and sounds authentic too. Of course, the guitar is ripe for upgrading and its construction is more than robust enough to allow for both hardware and pickup upgrades.

The truth is, however, that even accomplished players may not need to carry out such tasks — the overall quality of the existing fittings is well up to par. There really is no excuse whatsoever for not owning a Fender-style electric with added mojo and vibe.

The Quick Answer

The ’50s, ’60s and ’70s Squier Classic Vibe electric guitar versions vary mainly in terms of the body wood, fretboard wood, pickup configurations and colors available. All versions have the same neck shape, pickup voicing, gloss finish and fret number. The main differences between versions are cosmetic.

Гитары Jackson – это иконы металлического звучания и JS11 Dinky не является исключением. Звукосниматели дают плотный мощный звук, но это не делает модель узконаправленной, она используется в разных музыкальных жанрах.

How does she play?

There isn’t much point in a guitar sounding great if it’s no fun to play. This is probably the strength of the Classic Vibe range. It’s a common occurrence that guitarists trying out entry level guitars might try a few, then pick up a Fender Squier Classic Vibe guitar and immediately notice the difference. For the minor increase in budget, the improvement in quality is noticeable, even to absolute beginners.
Much of a guitar’s playability comes down to setup. So bear that in mind that if the model you try has been beaten around a bit, or is fresh out of the box and hasn’t been adjusted. However, you’re more likely to find, like I did, that it will play well from the word go.

I typically prefer a faster (thinner) neck, but there is nothing not to like about the general feel of the neck on this Classic Vibe strat. Combine that with the maple fretboard and typically easy access to higher frets & you soon start nodding and smiling as you play.

I didn’t need to do any adjusting, but even if I did, tuning pegs, string adjustment and even truss rod tinkering are easy.

Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster

The ’50s, ’60s and ’70s Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster models have different body woods, fretboard woods, and color options. The ’50s and ’60s models have an SS pickup configuration and the ’70s model has the choice of an SH or HH configuration. All versions have the same neck shape.

Differences:

• Body wood: the ’50s version uses pine, the ’60s version uses nyatoh and the ’70s version uses poplar.
• The ’50s and ’60s Classic Vibe Tele’s have the same iconic look, however the ’70s version has an extended pickguard making it look quite a bit different from the original model.

Чем отличается классическая гитара от акустической.

Инструмент состоит из корпуса, грифа, шести струн в испанской (семи – в русской). Корпус (на сленге – барабан или бубен) образован верхней и нижней декой, и обечайкой между ними. Материал – дерево или шпон из разных пород древесины, чаще всего из палисандра или красного дерева, ели и кедра для грифа. Звук, возникающий в результате колебания струн, усиливается в барабане, поэтому конструктивно гитара является акустической, т.е звучащей без звукоснимателя, электроусилителя и прочих электрических наворотов.

Однако на этом их сходство заканчиваются. Разберемся с отличиями. Для удобства восприятия мы объединим их в табличную форму.

Сюда можно добавить способы крепления струн. Устройство в нижней части корпуса, к которому крепят жилы, называется бридж. У классики он сквозной. Струна пропускается сквозь отверстия и затягивается петлей. Акустика оборудуется бриджем с набором специальных устройств – пинов, а в концы жил вплетены шарики. Свободный конец подевается в отверстие бриджа, а шарик фиксируется пином.

Усилие натянутых нейлоновых струн гораздо слабее, чем от стальных или бронзовых у акустики. Поэтому гриф последней оборудуется анкером, а бридж – пинами. Конструкция классики не приспособлена к большим нагрузкам, поэтому грамотные пользователи никогда не используют на ней струн из металла.
